Lot 506 Canada #789vivar 17c Multicoloured Queen Elizabeth II, 1977-1982 Floral & Environment Issue, A Fine NH UL Corner Block Raised Eyebrow Variety, Tertiary, On DF2/LF3 Paper, 3.5 mm Tagging, Partially Doubled Cameo

A fine NH UL corner block of the 17c multicoloured Queen Elizabeth II from the 1977-1982 Floral & Environment Issue raised eyebrow variety, tertiary, on DF2/LF3 paper, 3.5 mm tagging, partially doubled cameo. This variety is very scarce, and only occurs on a limited number of sheets printed. Unitrade does not illustrate it very welll, but it basically consists of a very large deeper grey arc above the eye area, resembling a giant eyebrow. It does NOT involve the actual eyebrow itself. The double cameo often results from a shift in the background colour away from the cameo. But in this case it is due to a downward shift of the highlights in the cameo, which would normally be flush with the bottom outline of the cameo. Here, we can actually see that it extends slightly past it, into the green background slightly.

Unitrade values the basic variety at $40 for VFNH. Our estimate of the value for fine, with the additional varieties is $30. The block offered here grades 70 as follows:

Centering/Margins: 40/70
