2 VFNH vertical pairs of the 38c multicoloured Princess Patricia's Infantry & Royal 22 Regiment from the 1989 Regiments Issue DF/DF Peterborough paper, alternate stamps showing doubling due to leftward and rightward shift of black. Interestingly on this issue it would appear that the black engraving was printed separately for each stamp design, as when one shows doubling due to shifting, the other appears completely normal. Unitrade states that out-of register stamps are common, which we disagree somewhat with. Most of the stamps we examined were normal, while a small proportion (10-15%) exhibited the shifts. So, while not rare, these shifts are somewhat uncommon.
