Paper types, gum types and shades vary widely on this issue, and with very few exceptions, these variations are not listed in Unitrade. Most values exist printed in at least 2 or three shade variations each, with the 1c green, 2c brown, 4c yellow and 5c blue rose showing the most variation. The gum varies from a white gum with a satin sheen to deep brownish cream with a semi-gloss sheen. The basic dichotomy of the papers on this issue is horizontal ribbed and vertical wove, with the very earliest printings being on horizontal ribbed paper with the deep brownish yellowish cream gum, and the very last printings being on soft white wove paper that is either vertical, or horizontal on the 10c value. The coils are generally on horizontal wove paper, and this can vary, with some varieties showing clear horizontal mesh, others being very crisp and showing no mesh and still others showing light vertical ribbing. The sheet stamps, except for the 10c are all on vertical wove paper, but there are varieties that show clear horizontal mesh in the paper, and still others having a horizontal ribbed surface. Those that do not show these characteristics usually either show vertical mesh or no mesh.
