Lot 96 Nigeria #55var-55avar (SG#51var-51avar) 1.5d Chestnut - Reddish Brown King George VI, 1938-1952 King George VI Definitive Issue, 8 Fine NH & VFNH Singles, Line Perf 12 & Comb Perf. 11.5, Most All Remaining Printings From 1942-1952
8 fine NH & VFNH singles of the 1.5d chestnut - reddish brown King George VI from the 1938-1952 King George VI Definitive Issue line perf 12 & comb perf. 11.5. Begins with three printings in thr chestnut shade: March 1940, December 1944, and a third that was made sometime between 1942 and 1944, which is not listed in the Potter & Shelton table. Then there is a brownish chestnut shade which looks to be from sometime in 1942, and is again not listed in the P&S table. Then there is a rose bown shade, which comes from either 1942 or 1948 (more likely). Then there is a deep red-brown from the October 1945 printing. Then there is a reddish brown, unlisted printing, which appears to be from sometime in 1947. Then, there are two comb perf. 11.5 printings. The first is red-brown on cross mesh paper, which appears to be similar to the August 1951 printing for the 1/2d, but there is no August 1951 listing in the Potter & Shelton table. Finally, the last printing is a May 1952 printing in reddish brown.
