Lot 316 Zanzibar (C) 1908-1909 Sultan Ali bin Hamoud Issue With SON German Seapost and Ghakichaki CDS Cancels
Lot 316 Zanzibar (C) 1908-1909 Sultan Ali bin Hamoud Issue With SON German Seapost and Ghakichaki CDS Cancels
Includes SG# 226 and 227a. The 6c rose carmine has a sideways watermark and June 1909 German Seapost East Africa Line cancel. The 3c green has a Ghakichaki CDS cancel, dated August 29, 1908.
Based on my online research the German seapost cancels generally sell for $20-$100, based on the value of the stamp and strike quality. This example would, in my opinion be in the $50 range. The Ghakichaki cancel is worth about $6.
Gibbons lists the basic stamps at 3.1 GBP. Based on this, the condition, and the scarcity of the SON cancel strikes, we would estimate the value of the lot at $55. The stamps offered here grade between 75-78 as follows:
Centering/Margins: 35/60, 40/60
Paper Freshness: 5/5
Colour: 5/5
Impression: 5/5
Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
Perforations: 10/10
