Lot 379 Australia - Queensland SG#71 1/- Greenish Gray , 1868-1874 Chalon Heads Issue, 2 Fine/Very Fine Used Singles, Broad Truncated Star Wmk, Perf 13, Scarce 4 Vertical Bar Cancel & 3 Letters, 3 Bars Duplex Cancel.

2 fine/very fine used singles of the 1/- greenish gray from the 1868-1874 Chalon Heads Issue, broad truncated star wmk, perf 13, scarce 4 vertical bar cancel & 3 letters, 3 bars duplex cancel.

Well centered for both, but the stamp with the dumb cancel has a slightly rounded corner at UL. The dump cancel is scarce because these hammers were only used when the postmaster misplaced their numeric canceller. The duplex letters are very likely GPO and comes from the central sorting desk in Brisbane.

Gibbons doesn't list these varieties, so we estimate them at $320. The stamp offered here grades 70 as follows:

Impression: 5/5

Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
